The Special Investigations Unit currently has an opportunity available for a SIU Officer to join our Victoria team. This role will be conducting investigations and preparing the reports required to support recommendations to Crown Counsel. You will work with managers and adjusters and provide guidance on investigation techniques helping them develop the skills needed to identify potentially fraudulent claims.

 

To be successful in this role, you will need strong knowledge and experience with the application of the relevant acts, legislation and regulations as they pertain to the investigation of insurance fraud, vehicle investigations, and related criminal activities. You will also have knowledge of civil litigation procedures and the Criminal Justice System, including experience providing guidance to Crown Counsel. You must have or possess the qualifications to immediately obtain Special Provincial Constable Status in British Columbia. Experience with major case management is an asset.

 

Position Requirements

  • You must have or possess the qualifications to immediately obtain Special Provincial Constable Status in British Columbia
  • Knowledge of the relevant acts, legislation and regulations as they pertain to the investigation of insurance fraud and related criminal activities
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada and its application
  • Demonstrated experience in investigative work
  • Demonstrated experience with Major Case Management is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the insurance field, claims handling procedures, claims settlement techniques, civil litigation procedures
  • Education which includes an undergraduate degree, certificate, diploma, professional designation (CIP) and/or a combination of related education, or equivalent Law Enforcement background/experience
  • Occasionally incumbents are required to work weekends and working away from the office may be required
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment based on the job requirements.

Work arrangements defined: 

  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
