Position Highlights

 

The Facilities Operations department at ICBC is hiring a Facilities Operations Technician to join the Vancouver Island Region. This role will oversee the building operation service of designated Claim centres, Driver Licensing offices and other company owned/operated buildings/facilities within the Province of BC.

 

We are looking for a candidate who thrives in a dynamic environment and is confident in their ability to work on multiple projects and/or project related activities. The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and abilities of the following:

 

  • Building trades, particularly as they relate to construction, plumbing, millwork, electrical, gas fitting and HVAC systems
  • Operational functions of computerized building control systems
  • Building maintenance operations procedures
  • Relevant budgeting and procurement policies pertaining to building maintenance and sourcing of sub- contractors

 

This position will respond to unresolved complaints and problems escalated by customers, and you will negotiate work contracts with contractors, particularly about facilities projects. You will also establish and maintain effective working relationships with site managers and staff as well as external contractors and service vendors.

 

There will be a health assessment for this position as there are occasions where you will lift building operation supplies and equipment, climb scaffolds, ladders, and you must be able to remain alert while performing specialized maintenance on equipment with moving parts.

 

There will also be possible exposure to working in awkward positions and harmful materials and fluids when performing repairs and maintenance.

 

Position Requirements

 

An apprenticeship trade ticket in one of the following areas: Electrician, Millwright, Gasfitter, Plumber, 4th Class Engineer, Refrigeration Mechanic or 5 years' work experience directly related to Facilities Operations is required.

 

  • A facilities management certificate would be an asset
  • Experience in mechanical systems, building automation systems (BAS) and having a Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate (SEMAC) would be an asset
  • A working knowledge of computers, e-mail and Microsoft applications is required
  • Valid driver’s license is required
