ICBC has an exciting opportunity for two experienced Tribunal Case Review Advisors to join the Corporate Law department.
Reporting to the Manager, Tribunal Case Review, the successful candidate will manage a caseload of Enhanced Accident Benefit Civil Resolution (“CRT”) disputes involving complex and sensitive material of a medical and legal nature. The candidates will handle disputes through all states of investigation, evaluation, facilitation, adjudication and judicial review.
This role requires a customer focus, continuous improvement mindset, technical ECC knowledge and the ability to build strong collaborative relationships with peers and work positively in a team environment.
Day to day responsibilities include:
- Managing a caseload of CRT disputes.
- Preparing responses and defending disputes where Applications or their legal representative, seek clarification and/or compensation for Health Care and Rehabilitation benefits, Income Replacement Benefits (IRB) and Permanent Impairment Benefits. The disputes may include seeking clarification on additional EAB coverage that includes, but is not limited to, Caregiver Benefits, Activities of Daily Living Benefits (ADL)’s and ongoing IRB compensation.
- Establishing rapport and credibility with customers. Striving to build trust and work toward resolution of disputes.
- Liasing with professionals and specialists for the purpose of gathering case information. Interpreting, analysing and conducting research on expert reports, case law, legal opinions, jurisprudence and other relevant information.
- Negotiating resolution of claims by engaging the facilitation and adjudication phase of the CRT process.
- Making ClaimCenter updates in the Matters tab throughout the CRT process.
- Maintaining detailed and up-to-date file documentation for caseload. Complete appropriate forms and main information on claims computer systems.
Position Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and experience:
- Knowledge of the relevant acts, regulations, legislation and jurisprudence pertaining to Accident Benefits and Enhanced Accident Benefits claims.
- Knowledge of the etiology of injuries leading to disability, theory of differential diagnosis, and science-based outcomes (developing knowledge).
- Knowledge of case development as it pertains to Accident Benefits and Enhanced Accident Benefits claims.
- Knowledge of the preparation of evidence and file material for Tribunal proceedings.
- Knowledge of the relevant department and corporate databases and systems to access and research information and conduct analysis.
- Ability to interpret, analyse and conduct research on records or reports prepared by healthcare professionals, past tribunal decisions, legal opinions, regulations, legislation and other related references.
- Ability to adapt/develop strategies for the unique variables of each case.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with claims leaders, specialists and other stakeholders in Accident Benefits and Enhanced Accident Benefits claims.
- Ability to interact and negotiate resolution of disputes during all stages of the CRT proceedings.
- Ability to manage a multi-file caseload of claims being disputed at the Tribunal.

Work arrangements defined:
- Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
