We are looking for a Technical Specialist to lead our Information Systems Department (ISD) related Facilities initiatives, and the delivery of other Technology Operations projects and initiatives.  The role will play a critical role in the success of key facilities projects, including the current Head Office Relocation Project and other related portfolio work.   

 

A Technical Specialist acts as a technical subject matter expert and is accountable for ensuring day-to-day operational tasks are completed. They also provide support to corporate projects and lead the implementation of internal initiatives.  

 

To be successful in this role a candidate must have the following technical skills at an intermediate level equivalent to more than 5 years experience: 

  • Act as the primary IT contact or lead for facilities projects, planning, coordinating, and tracking activities across IT teams, Facilities, and business stakeholders to ensure requirements are met. Identify and engage missing stakeholders early to address their needs and concerns. 

  • Develop, maintain, and improve facilities-related documentation, including processes, procedures, guides, playbooks, and reporting to support consistent service delivery and continuous improvement. 

  • Provide technical expertise across workplace technology and infrastructure, including LAN and network cabling, power, corporate security systems, satellite phones, communications rooms, point-of-sale devices, digital signage, meeting room technology, cable TV, standalone internet services, office setups, reception areas, RTCCs, SBCs, DLO offices, and related systems. 

  • Manage and coordinate third-party IT contractors and vendors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with organizational standards. 

  • Provide guidance and risk mitigation strategies to minimize service interruptions and downtime for employees and customers during facility projects and planned changes. 

  • Support technology refresh initiatives by coordinating the replacement of desktop peripherals during office moves and facilities projects, while ensuring retired equipment is disposed of securely and cost-effectively. 

  • Support modern workplace initiatives by coordinating workstation setups for hoteling, desk-sharing, drop-in workspaces, and other workplace flexibility programs. 

  • Lead the delivery of Technology Operations projects, ensuring objectives are achieved within approved scope, budget, timelines, resource allocations, and quality expectations. 

 

To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate the following competencies: 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at the same time, while staying organized and meeting deadlines. 

  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to make choices that align with business goals, strategies, and operational needs. 

  • Advanced technical troubleshooting expertise, with a proven ability to quickly diagnose complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions. 

  • Experience in technical consulting and business analysis, providing guidance to stakeholders on best practices and recommending technology solutions that meet business requirements. 

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and IT requirements in a clear and easy-to-understand way for non-technical audiences. 

  • Strong project management skills, including planning work, coordinating resources, setting objectives, managing budgets, and tracking timelines to ensure successful project delivery. 

  • Risk and issue management experience, including identifying and resolving project roadblocks, managing competing priorities, mitigating risks, and escalating critical issues when required. 

 

Experience in the following technical areas or solutions would be considered assets: 

  • Support projects and initiatives across different Information Systems Department teams, working collaboratively to achieve shared goals. 

  • Assist with IT budgeting and procurement activities, including forecasting hardware and software costs and managing capital and operational expenses. 

  • Experience using SAP to manage project billing, track IT spending, and ensure compliance with financial policies and governance requirements. 

  • Experience using Jira to track project tasks, manage requests, monitor progress, and support project delivery. 

  • Recent experience leading or co-leading IT projects involving external vendors or business partners, ensuring successful collaboration and delivery of project objectives.

Work arrangements defined: 

  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
