Position Highlights:

The Operational Resilience team at ICBC is responsible for various tools and platforms that the Information Systems Division depends on to serve the organization.


We have an opportunity for a Technical Specialist with platform administration and technical support capabilities to join us and help support administration, utilization and maintenance of Enterprise Monitoring tools and our ITSM platform at ICBC.


As a Technical Specialist for Operational Resilience, you will have a role in developing and sustaining our monitoring platform in support of maintaining and enhancing system stability.


This includes:

• Systems administration and technical support for our enterprise monitoring platforms and ITSM platform.

• Level 3 (senior) problem analysis and root cause analysis.

• Performance tuning: optimizing searches, indexing strategies, application performance tuning and anomaly detection

• Technical implementation planning and delivery.

• Scripting and automating maintenance tasks.

• Consulting with application development teams.

• Support responsibility for a platform or application.

• Capacity planning and analysis.


You will work closely with other IT professionals and build experience supporting these evolving technologies.


Position requirements:


• Experience with application performance monitoring, digital experience monitoring and log monitoring technologies and concepts

• Proficiency with Splunk (Enterprise & Cloud) and Dynatrace, with practical knowledge of:

o Core Splunk components such as indexers, forwarders, search heads including data ingestion and parsing techniques

o Full-stack monitoring observability in Dynatrace, real user monitoring and synthetic monitoring configuration

o Creating custom dashboards and alerting strategies

• Infrastructure, application hosting, integration hosting, and/or systems administration experience in an enterprise environment.

• Scripting skills and automation techniques.

• Collaborating across teams to align monitoring strategies with business goals

• Communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.


The following technologies and concepts are used by the Operational Resilience team. Experience with any of these is an asset:

• UNIX or Linux systems administration, Windows server administration.

• Use of APIs and extensions for custom integrations

• Proficiency with Jira for task and project tracking

• ITIL methodologies and best practices with incident, problem and change management, and service management (ITIL Certification will be an asset).

• Your technical expertise combined with demonstrated skills to influence and negotiate productive outcomes has prepared you to make a strong contribution in this role.

Work arrangements defined: 

  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
