To further this important work, the Indigenous Relations department is evolving and expanding. As part of this growth, we are currently seeking a Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations to join our team.
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the delivery of Indigenous Relations programs across the organization. You will work with a talented and inclusive team of professionals in the development and implementation of ICBC’s Reconciliation Action Plan, to deliver on our organization’s Reconciliation journey commitments. You will be using your knowledge and lived Indigenous experience to advise senior leaders and executives on projects related to the action plan, as well as engaging with Indigenous Elders and communities to develop meaningful relationships.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensure that projects and initiatives within assigned business areas are aligned with Indigenous Reconciliation action plan, advise partners on embedding Reconciliation commitments within our products, processes and services, and coordinate resolution of any roadblocks
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with business partners, communities, and local government to implement meaningful Reconciliation actions
- Represent the Corporation and business areas at events and pertinent committees, working groups, and conferences, as well as coordinate partner meetings, and special events as required
- Contribute to the governance and oversight for Reconciliation activities by participating in the evaluation and reporting of the Reconciliation action plan to ensure accountability and transparency
- Support issue resolution process for Indigenous customers and employees, working with subject matter experts to provide recommendations, coordinate responses and track case closure for reporting
- Monitor and record Indigenous Relations issues and coordinate corporate and business area responses. Coordinate outreach and communications related to ICBC operations
- Coach, counsel and mentor junior team members in their work, sharing expertise and experience to develop and grow departmental capabilities
- Provide advice and recommendations to senior executives to support and manage any Indigenous-related outreach, initiatives, ad-hoc issues or concerns
Position Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and experience:
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
- Deep knowledge of project planning and management, and experience working with the leadership of senior management teams
- 6-8 years of experience in Indigenous Relations, strategic planning, community partnership development, relationship management or related fields is preferred
- Familiarity with the current legislative and regulatory environment, government structure, and political relationships and practices
- This position requires travel throughout the Lower Mainland; access to a personal vehicle is considered an asset.
This is a hybrid role that requires working on-site twice per week. While you’ll occasionally be expected to work from our North Vancouver Head Office for team or divisional meetings and events, we can explore the possibility of the selected candidate working from other ICBC offices across the Lower Mainland on the remaining in-office days, depending on departmental needs.
