ICBC is looking for a natural storyteller to join our team as the Manager of Media Relations & Issues Management. This role will play a key role in helping reposition the organization as a leader in auto insurance, road safety, and customer service in British Columbia.
This high-profile position will act as ICBC’s primary spokesperson as well as lead the team in proactive and reactive media relations.

Position Responsibilities
- Act as corporate spokesperson.
- Execute ICBC’s media relations strategy to increase public and media awareness of ICBC’s products, services, and initiatives, especially those that directly impact customers, such as Enhanced Care and new digital services.
- Oversee the development, coordination, and delivery of timely responses to media inquiries, ensuring ICBC’s policies, decisions, and operational changes are communicated clearly and honestly to the public to build and maintain trust.
- Cultivate strong relationships with key media representatives.
- Identify and develop proactive storytelling opportunities that highlight the organization's people, initiatives, and impact, securing positive media coverage across local, regional, and national outlets.
- Provide advice and media training to executive and business leaders.
- Mitigate reputational risk through proactive issues management, including overseeing ICBC’s crisis communications teams.
- Manage a team of four, responsible for coaching, performance development, and oversight of an operational budget.
Position Requirements
- Proven experience in media relations and issues management.
- Solutions-oriented with a desire to try new things, learn, and grow.
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, along with a strong sense of urgency and ability to be persuasive when required.
- Sound judgment and effective decision-making abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with provincial government structures and communication processes.

Work arrangements defined:
- Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
