Position Highlights
Join the Facilities, Real Estate & Environmental Sustainability department as an Environmental Program Specialist and play a key role in climate reporting, pollution prevention, compliance, risk management and sustainability initiatives. This position is perfect for someone who, first and foremost, is passionate about the environment and making a difference – and who also possesses exceptional analytical, communication, and organization skills.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and timely reporting, particularly ICBC’s annual Climate Change Accountability Report.
- Perform data analysis - gathering, verifying and analyzing data relating to ICBC’s environmental footprint (greenhouse gas, energy, waste, water, etc.). Analyze the environmental benefits of initiatives and opportunities.
- Lead the rollout of a pollution prevention program by effectively communicating requirements to staff through clear training and guidance.
- Conduct environmental audits for compliance against environmental policies, practices and procedures. Summarize key findings and corrective actions in a report for management to review. Monitor completion of corrective actions.
- Proactively research and share knowledge of emerging trends and requirements (including relevant acts, regulations and government requirements).
- Support environmental programs/initiatives aligned to ICBC’s corporate strategy and foster individual and collective responsibility for environmental sustainability and pollution prevention.
- Leadership – while this position does not have direct reports, the successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert and provide authoritative technical advice to management on environmental programs and initiatives and may co-ordinate the activities of contractors and consultants working on environmental projects and review reports against agreed-upon expectations.

Position Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and experience:
- Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline, and related work experience
- Knowledge of relevant acts, regulations, standards and methodologies relating to environmental sustainability and compliance
- Technical, analytical and organization skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical/Concentration Ability and attention to detail and data accuracy
- Leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
While this position is scheduled to be posted for two weeks, ICBC reserves the right to close the competition early based on operational needs or applicant volume.

Work arrangements defined:
- Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
