As the consolidation point for all business intelligence and business analytics functions across ICBC, the Information Management team's goal is to empower the organization to drive efficiencies and savings across all facets of the business. This is achieved by delivering precise reporting, querying, statistical and descriptive insights, and performance measurements to both internal and external customers

 

The Senior Data Architect will join the Information Management Insurance team and provide technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of enterprise data and analytics solutions for Insurance business users.

 

Accountabilities will include:

 

  • Develop database and big data solutions by designing data architectures, including business architecture definition, data storage, data analytics, data transformation, and data access;
  • Provide technical guidance and partner with Business Systems Analysts to gather requirements and translate business needs into solution design; 
  • Responsible for creation, comprehensive understanding, maintenance and communication of logical and physical data models;
  • Conform to the data architecture design standards and frameworks;
  • Effective collaboration with data engineers to design scalable and user-friendly solutions;
  • Oversee implementation of business solutions and ensure adherence to standards and best practices;
  • Oversee the architecture of modern cloud data platforms, data lakes, and data fabrics, ensuring seamless integration with existing environments;
  • Be the subject matter expert in data sources, reporting workflows, business process, and data analysis tools and methodology;
  • Establish data management processes including data lineage, data profiling, data quality management, data stewardship and governance.
  • Promote Information Management by working with our partners and customers to support analytics solutions that follow our roadmap.
  • Support a 'one-team' culture by actively building positive relationships, mentoring new and junior team members, and partnering with Data Architects across teams to deliver on shared goals.

 

Position Requirements:

 

To make an immediate contribution, the Senior Data Architect will have the following skills:

 

  • Proficient in designing data architectures for cloud and on-premises systems using established frameworks and methodologies.
  • Extensive experience with data modelling for Big Data. ex: Apache Spark, Hive/Cassandra/Big Query/Redshift;
  • Extensive experience architecting complex data pipelines;
  • Advanced SQL and aAnalytical skills with experience in large and complex datasets;
  • Expertise in data ingestion, data storage, data processing, and data management best practices;
  • Extensive experience leading projects/teams to implement enterprise data warehouses, data marts, or data lakes;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritize and complete multiple concurrent tasks in an environment of changing deadlines, priorities and requirements;
  • Have a solid understanding of relevant business processes and functional areas and keep informed of changes in business areas;
  • Take initiative to drive all delivery activities forward and achieve business value without delay;
  • Experience in Agile development methodologies;
  • Working knowledge with systems such as Guidewire Claim Center and Policy Center, SAP Finance, IBM, Oracle, Control-M, and JIRA would be an asset;
  • Experience in Data Engineering tools such as Spark SQL, Scala, or Python and visualization tools like Tableau is a plus.

 

Position Information:

Work arrangements defined: 

  • Resident – you will work at your primary in-office headquarters on all scheduled work days.
  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia. 
  • Hybrid 10 – you will work a minimum of 10 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically one week in/one week out or up to 3 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia. 
  • Mobile – you will work a significant amount of time in the field, in addition to working from an office and optionally working remotely within British Columbia. 
  • Remote – you will work remotely from within British Columbia, with one required visit to your primary office per month.
