Position Highlights 

 

We’re looking for a collaborative Creative Graphic Designer to develop design solutions and enhance communications for our audiences across print, digital and other channels. You will apply your design expertise to a range of material for ICBC’s customers, business partners and employees. Our collaborative team consists of content writers and strategists, and we work alongside colleagues in Marketing and Communications and Customer Experience to bring our purpose to life.

 

With proven experience working in a complex environment and an established brand, you will design for a variety of communication channels, with a focus on printed materials such as forms and publications.

 

The ideal candidate has a passion for team collaboration, design thinking and innovation, proven design experience working creatively within brand standards, and the ability to distill complex requirements and concepts into clear and effective communications. 

 

Core duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Create clear and compelling designs that engage and inform internal and external audiences across a range of corporate marketing and communication materials including print materials, promotional items, and digital graphics 
  • Support the implementation of our visual identity across channels and champion our brand guidelines and best practices
  • Provide expertise and vision in helping to grow our design guidelines and templates (in collaboration with other design colleagues)
  • Consult and collaborate with internal clients to identify design requirements, evaluate work requests, and make strategic recommendations for solutions based on industry knowledge, best practice and expertise
  • Execute and deliver projects by informing workback schedules, maintaining key milestones, circulating work for review, gathering and incorporating feedback, communicating with team members and making adjustments as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Review materials to ensure they meet our standards, revises standards and templates as required
  • Continuous learning of new software, accessibility standards and best practices in design

 

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Technical skills. Communication design expertise, print production industry best practices, knowledge of best practice for digital platforms and user-centred design, fundamentals of typography, composition and colour theory. Mastery of the Adobe Creative Suite. Illustration skills and experience with accessible design principles considered an asset.
  • Analytical/problem solving skills. Able to identify risks to delivery, offer potential solutions, review and execute designs to ensure brand compliance.
  • Communication skills. Able to collaborate with team members and clients, ask clarifying questions, provide advice and expertise on visual needs, and manage expectations. Able to communicate verbally and in writing with a range of stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Organizational skills. Able to plan own priorities and adapt to changing demands and schedules. Can handle multiple tasks and work to strict deadlines. Able to build files and archive work within department organizational systems.
  • Accuracy and concentration skills. Able to produce precise and accurate results with strong attention to detail.

 

The above requirements would typically be met through completion of post-secondary education in graphic, communication or digital design and 2-5 years of related, recent experience. Membership in a certification-granting design professional association, such as DesCan or RGD, considered an asset. A link to a design portfolio of professional samples (5-15) is required.

Work arrangement defined:

 

  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
