Position Highlights 

 

ICBC has an exciting opportunity for two Corporate Paralegals to join our Corporate Law Department in North Vancouver. These positions are primarily focused on contract support, including the preparation, administration, assignment, tracking, and maintenance of commercial contracts.  We encourage you to apply for this opportunity if you are a detail-oriented professional with strong applied knowledge of commercial contracts in a fast paced, high volume legal environment. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The primary duties of the corporate commercial paralegal include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Prepare, administer, track, and maintain ICBC’s commercial contracts. 
  • Gather information from the business for advice, drafting and assignment purposes. 
  • Advise the business on contracts in a simple, straightforward and knowledgeable manner. 
  • Draft contracts using a combination of original drafting, established precedents, and templates. 
  • Manage contract intake and assign contract files to the most appropriate solicitor. 
  • Interpret and apply various policies, procedures and processes. 
  • Assist solicitors with broker, subsidiary, and other corporate matters (e.g. share sales and asset sales). 
  • Conduct legal research and preparing summaries or memoranda. 
  • Respond to inquiries from internal clients, external counsel, suppliers, and other third parties. 
  • Understand and apply principles of confidentiality, privacy, and conflict of interest. 

 

 

Position Requirements

 

The corporate commercial paralegal will bring the following qualifications and skills to the role: 

 

  • The skills and ability to perform the key responsibilities that are set out above. 
  • Completion of a paralegal certificate, diploma, or degree from a recognized institution. 
  • Several years' experience drafting and advising on contracts on a day-to-day basis. 
  • Strong familiarity with information technology and privacy agreements. 
  • Solid understanding of contract structuring approaches. 
  • Ability to write and communicate complex concepts in a simple manner. 
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a focus on achieving business objectives. 
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities with tight deadlines. 
  • Very strong attention to detail. 
  • Some experience with corporate matters (e.g. share sales and asset sales) would be a plus.

Work arrangements defined: 

 

  • Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
