Position Highlights
The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEIA) Team at ICBC is growing! ICBC launched its Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Strategic Action Plan in January 2023 and its Accessibility Principles & Priorities in September 2023. Reporting to the Associate Director, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, the Consultant will be key in moving forward the strategy and workplan to build accessibility at ICBC for employees and customers. The Accessibility Consultant will be responsible for coordinating the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, practices, and procedures to support accessibility and will guide the implementation of ICBC’s requirements under the Accessible BC Act and standards. Additionally, the Accessibility Consultant supports the Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) and DEI Department, working to enhance awareness of accessibility and barrier-free considerations across ICBC.
In this role, a typical day might include:
- Consulting with managers on innovative ways to build accessibility for our employees and customers.
- Collaborating with a range of people across the organization to implement ICBC’s Accessibility Principles & Pillars or the Accessible BC Act.
- Supporting the work of our Accessibility Advisory Committee by setting up meeting times, creating agendas, preparing workplans and status reports, and taking minutes.
- Undertaking accessibility audits and evaluating our progress toward achieving accessibility goals.
- Preparing reports and presentations on the progress towards our accessibility goals.
- Conducting research on emerging trends and best practices in accessibility and making recommendations for future actions.
- Answering internal and external questions, requests for information and feedback when accessibility issues arise.
- Reviewing and updating website and promotional information to meet accessibility standards.
- Providing advice to employees on the best way to provide accessible services.
- Hosting conversations on universal design or providing training on disability-related topics.
- Connecting with our Employee Resource Groups and supporting their work to create a more accessible and inclusive ICBC.
- Sharing coffee and conversation with colleagues from across BC’s public sector organizations, provincial agencies and statutory authorities.
- Attending conferences, workshops and webinars to keep current with the latest developments in the field.

Position Requirements
You have:
- 3 or more years of experience in implementing accessibility measures.
- A graduate degree in a relevant discipline; or a combination of both!
- Proficiency in the use of the MS Office Suite of programs.

Work arrangement defined:
- Hybrid 8 – you will work a minimum of 8 days in a 4-week period at your primary office headquarters (typically 2 days per week). The remaining days will be remote within British Columbia.
