The Manager, Salvage Services oversees the operation and administration of salvage functions for assigned facilities. This role is accountable for maximizing salvage net revenue, ensuring operational excellence, maintaining compliance with corporate, legal, and environmental standards, and providing leadership to a multi‑disciplinary team. The Manager acts as a technical resource, represents the organization within the automotive community, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across salvage operations.

 

You will be responsible for leading performance, developing talent, and ensuring your team delivers ICBC products and services effectively and efficiently. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the operation and administration of salvage services, including buyer sales programs, to ensure sufficient inventory and maximize revenue.
  • Overseeing the implementation of operating policies, procedures, and system changes.
  • Identifying and evaluating opportunities to improve operational efficiencies and increase net salvage revenue.
  • Directing and monitoring file handling, policy adherence, and procedural compliance through audits of salvage files to ensure strategic and operational objectives are met.
  • Maintaining appropriate staffing levels and providing clear direction, coaching, and development. Establishing performance expectations and evaluating performance.
  • Preparing and managing the operating budget, monitoring expenses, and overseeing the maintenance and repair of corporate‑owned property and equipment. Preparing business cases for proposed capital expenditures.
  • Representing and promoting the corporation within the community and automotive industry. Expanding the base of qualified salvage purchasers to maintain a competitive marketplace. Investigating questionable, unethical, or illegal business practices by salvage buyers and taking appropriate action.
  • Overseeing the security of salvage vehicles and personal effects. Responding to environmental incidents within salvage yards and coordinating containment and clean‑up activities.
  • Acting as a technical resource for corporate staff and salvage customers.
  • Participating in committees to design, develop, and assist in the implementation of action programs.
  • Ensuring environmental requirements are implemented in accordance with the applicable Environmental Responsibility Guidebook for assigned business activities.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of the automotive manufacturing and repair industries
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles and practices
  • Understanding of relevant departmental, divisional, and corporate business functions, programs, and services
  • Several years of related experience in an operational or insurance environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop front‑line employees
  • Strong demonstrated skillset in customer service and customer satisfaction

 

Physical/Concentration Ability

  • to be alert to surroundings and personal safety while working around vehicles
  • to bend, kneel and crawl in tight spaces to take photos
  • to lift and remove vehicle parts and other times from vehicles

 

Work Environment
