Position Highlights

 

Road Safety Program Delivery and Community Relations has a great opportunity for someone to join their team in Burnaby. The Road Safety and Community Coordinator will develop, initiate, implement and evaluate regional and community road safety programs and projects to reduce incidents of auto crime and crashes involving all road users.

 

Key Position Responsibilities


You are a consummate relationship builder who balances planning and outreach activities with a keen desire to connect with community members and activate initiatives to engage with our Road Safety message.

 

  • Work directly with community members and partners such as police, schools, volunteers and municipal representatives.
  • Oversee campaign and project budgets for road safety initiatives.
  • Act as primary point of contact and regional media representative.
  • Collaborate with other internal lines of business to develop and deliver road safety programs.
  • Conduct large scale presentations on road safety and loss prevention issues to various stakeholders.
  • Serve as the technical resource on loss prevention and road safety programs and products.
  • Public speaking and presenting road safety concepts and ideas is an integral part of this position.

 

Position Requirements

 

You are resourceful and creative as the ideal candidate. You will cultivate and develop opportunities to engage communities in Burnaby.

 

  • Candidates will have some post-secondary education in a related field (Social Sciences, Marketing or Communications).
  • 2+ years’ experience developing, implementing and delivering projects and programs
  • Previous community volunteer work and/or road safety experience
  • Demonstrated guidance, diplomacy, political awareness and community orientation will be critical to success.
  • Knowledge of road safety initiatives as well as the Corporation’s other lines of business would be a strong asset.
  • Self-motivated, influential and engaging.
  • Capacity to work self-sufficiently while working collaboratively in achieving goals with our community members.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and writing skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft office.
  • Ability to travel periodically and work evening and weekends when required.

 

Non-negotiables

 

  • Interested applicants must be able to work outside regular business hours to meet the needs of community members, the community and the department.
  • This includes evenings and weekends.
  • Must be comfortable working in adverse weather conditions, as many campaigns take place outdoors
  • Strong relationship building skills; as you will be responsible for establishing, cultivating and maintaining relationships with various communities, including Indigenous communities.
  • Provide excellent customer service, engaging public in a variety of ways including: emails, phone calls, meetings, community events and road safety outreach activations.
  • Must be comfortable with being a key media person in order to act as the face of ICBC within this region. This will include responding to road safety related questions, interviews on pedestrian safety, and various calls on a weekly basis.
  • Candidates also require a valid BC Driver's license as the role involves frequent travel throughout an assigned geographic area and beyond.
  • Candidates must meet the provincially legislated requirements of the Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA).
