As a Driver Examiner, you play a critical role in supporting Road Safety within British Columbia. You examine, re-examine, license and evaluate new and experienced drivers in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations. Driver examiners must have excellent time management and organizational skills and exercise superior judgment skills. We require individuals who can work independently, meet deadlines, and strive to achieve customer satisfaction in all aspects of their work.
Your key focus will be to conduct road tests and determine the knowledge and ability of drivers to safely operate commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles (Class 1 through 8). Helping put safe drivers on our roads is important to the company and to all British Columbians. In between road tests, you will be part of the Driver License Center Client Services team providing customers with information on Driver Licensing processes and procedures and collecting fees and fines.
Position Requirements:
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service
• Ability to make decisions independently in challenging customer situations
• Ability to provide difficult feedback in challenging situations
• Ability to work in variable working conditions (weather, customer vehicles etc.)
• Strong data entry skills and cash handling experience is an asset
Additional requirements include:
• Successful completion of a health assessment based on the job requirements
• Clean criminal record check by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General as required under the Criminal Records Review Act
• Possess a valid class 5 BC driver's license or better and have a clean driving record
The driver examiner position involves working in all weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. The offer of employment in the position of Driver Examiner will be conditional on the successful completion of the class 5/7 training and testing during your probationary period.
Some locations may require regular overnight travel to conduct road tests and unit work in other nearby communities. Overnight travel may also be required to attend training, meetings, and road test coverage within a specific region. Hours of operation are subject to change.
This is a mass posting. We anticipate filling potential vacancies throughout the province of British Columbia that arise during the next six (6) months through this mass posting. If the Corporation is unable to fill all vacancies with suitable internal applicants, the remaining will be recruited externally.
These positions report to various Managers within the Department.
